With growing concern for those Australians who are missing out, the Welfare Rights Centre Inc. has decided to raise the profile of poverty and social exclusion that exists in our world by running an annual photographic prize.
This project encourages everyone interested in their community and photography to get involved. Photographers, businesses, corporations and people experiencing hardship or poverty are encouraged to get involved in three ways:
- Take photographs of images in public places of contemporary communities that portray poverty.
- Promote the competition, annual event and raise awareness of poverty in Queensland through their networks and publications.
- Sponsor the prizes so more people are encouraged to get involved.
These are visions that may have been left unseen if it wasn’t for the artistic eye.
Images submitted to this annual competition and the winners of each category will be announced at an event to mark Anti Poverty Week 2009.
